Poll: Disability acceptance lags in U.S. compared with Europe, Canada

U.S. communities may not be as accepting of individuals with intellectual disabilities as others in European countries and Canada, a new Gallup poll shows. More than 80% of Americans surveyed said their communities were desirable for those with disabilities, but the percentages were higher in 14 other countries, such as Canada and The Netherlands. Residents of Asia and the former Soviet Union were the least likely to say their communities were accepting of people with disabilities.
