Strong commercial building boosts May construction rates

Construction in the U.S. made an unexpected 0.9% jump in May, far exceeding the 0.1% increase analysts had expected. The rise represented gains in business and nonresidential building, which was up 2.7%, while housing building still slumped, dropping 0.8% in May.
