GAO blasts fire-safety compliance at nuclear plants

The Government Accountability Office says operators of U.S. nuclear plants have not complied with 30-year-old fire and safety rules. A report issued Monday claimed the plants are using unapproved safety manuals, have not made permanent repairs to fire damage, rely on manual response to emergency situations and have failed to conduct endurance tests on fire-safety electrical-wire wraps.
