Estrogen ups and downs linked to neurological diseases

Fluctuating hormones throughout a woman's reproductive life may affect her susceptibility to neurological diseases, including Parkinson's, schizophrenia, Alzheimer's, Tourette syndrome and ADHD, researchers reported. The key may be that estrogen affects the dopamine transporter. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter in the brain that helps regulate the central nervous system.
