Proposition 71 spurs construction of stem cell labs in California

Several universities and research institutes in California's Bay Area that are seeking to give rise to medical breakthroughs are constructing stem cell research laboratories with the help of Proposition 71, the state's ballot initiative that authorizes the spending of $3 billion in bonds on stem cell research. The University of California, San Francisco, plans to unveil a $123 million stem cell facility later this year, and Stanford University is expected to finish the construction of a $200 million laboratory this month.
