Study: Complications deprive stroke patients of 2 healthy years

A study of more than 1,200 patients suffering from ischemic stroke found that those who experienced any of a range of complications lost an average of two years of healthy life. Researchers noted that nearly 34% of patients suffered from some type of complication within four weeks of the event, including pneumonia, heart attack and urinary tract infection.
