Device turns food waste into compost using only heat

A machine that uses only heat to dehydrate food scraps and turn them into compost and a bit of sterile water holds the potential to save businesses on food-waste pickup. South Korea's Myeong Yurl Lee invented the food-recycling technology and the Ecovim, now produced by his company, ENIC Inc. "It’s a full-circle, sustainable recycling product that takes food waste and turns it into compost to grow food again," said Danny Maki, a senior account manager at Integrated Veterans Services of Santa Fe, N.M., which sells the Ecovim in the U.S.
