Diabetes plus microangiopathy speeds mental decline in patients

Type 1 diabetes patients with microangiopathy showed lower cognition, information processing speed and attention span than the healthy control group at the start of the study and during follow-up, according to a study presented at the ADA 73rd Scientific Sessions. The diabetes patients also saw a greater decline in executive function during the study that was associated with greater brain volume loss, researchers said.
