Global availability of marriage equality doubles in a year

By Aug. 1, 8% of the world's population, 585 million people, will be living in countries or jurisdictions that allow same-sex couples to marry, an increase of nearly 100% since August 2012, according to this analysis. Thirty percent of Americans and 23% of Europeans will be covered by marriage equality laws on Aug. 1.
