How far should teachers go to motivate students?

In New Jersey and elsewhere, some educators are resorting to nontraditional tactics -- from taking a pie in the face to kissing a pig -- to help motivate students to achieve certain goals. According to the New Jersey Education Association, the tactics may be working. "Anytime I can find a way to blend the two by making learning fun, everyone benefits. It's my job to set a positive climate and tone for everyone," said Jason Vivadelli, principal at Evergreen Elementary School in Woodbury.
