India manufacturing remains weak in June

With output down and orders declining for the first time in more than four years, India's manufacturing activity remained barely in growth mode last month. The HSBC/Markit purchasing managers index of 50.3 was up from 50.1 in May. The slide in output was mainly the result of power shortages, as was the case in May, noted Leif Eskesen, HSBC's chief economist for India and ASEAN.
