Making nice with customers

Any business can improve the way it interacts with customers, and the best place to start is the simplest: just being nice, writes small business owner Melisa Cammack. "[P]oliteness and something as easy as a standard greeting gets each interaction off to a good start, even if the customer has a problem and is reporting it to the company," she writes. Other tips: Speed up response time, find new ways to contact customers, and make sure customer service is consistent across the company.
