A study in JAMA Internal Medicine revealed 1 in 3 heart disease patients received unneeded repeat cholesterol screening over an 11-month period following their most recent test. Medical groups recommend testing once every 12 months, and treatment regimens were altered for only about 6% of those who had a repeat screening. Repeat testing that does not improve outcomes may only be a waste of time and resources, researchers noted.
