Sequester cuts to Part B drug costs hurt docs, patients

Both patients and doctors are hurt by extensive cuts to Medicare Part B payments for medicines administered in doctors' offices and to the fees doctors receive for administering those treatments, politicians from both major parties agreed during a House hearing. "Reimbursement rates have caused the shift of some patient populations such as those with primary immune deficiency diseases and other rare diseases, from treatment in the physician office to treatment in the hospital outpatient department -- arguably the worst setting for someone with a compromised immune system," said Rep. Joe Pitts, R-Pa.
