Is solar-powered shipping just a crazy dream?

Researchers are testing out solar-powered, zero-emission boats capable of circumnavigating the globe, but even the boats' captains say it's unlikely we'll see solar as a leading source. "Personally, I don't believe solar energy is appropriate for big ships and commercial traffic. It would be a dream, but it's crazy," says solar boat captain Gerard D'Aboville. Still, experts say solar panels could be used to provide supplemental power and emissions reductions for big ships.
