South Korean manufacturing contracts in June

South Korean manufacturing went into contraction in June for the first time in five months, with the HSBC purchasing managers index easing to 49.4. The falling Japanese yen is seen as a major factor in the decline. "If the downward trend is sustained, this will likely prove negative for Korea's growth outlook and put pressure on policymakers in Seoul to deliver more stimulus," HSBC economist Ronald Man said in a report.
