U.S. manufacturing, construction numbers rise

U.S. manufacturing activity returned to growth in June after a brief downturn in May, with the latest index from the Institute for Supply Management coming in at 50.9. Separately, strong public outlays contributed to a 0.5% rise in U.S. construction spending in May, bringing the monthly total to its highest level in nearly four years despite a decline in private nonresidential projects.
