Wildfire total for 2013 is lower than 10-year average, data show

National Interagency Fire Center data show that the U.S. has experienced 22,050 wildfires this year, lower than the 10-year average of 37,350. This year's fires have burned about 1.5 million acres, also below the average for the past decade, according to the data. "It hasn't really been a very active year for wildfires," said Ed Delgado of the fire center.
