Balloon sinuplasty can help some patients with chronic sinus infections

Balloon sinuplasty is being touted as an option for patients with sinus problems who are not good candidates for surgery or who do not want surgery. The treatment reduced the rate of sinus infections by more than 75% in a study in the American Journal of Rhinology and Allergy, but it does not preclude future surgery. "[I]t gives us an intermediate procedure between traditional sinus surgery and medical treatment," said facial plastic surgeon and otolaryngologist Jason Durel.
