How to make "strong female characters" more compelling

Well-rounded female characters are appearing more in action and adventure films, but these characters rarely make significant plot contributions, writes Tasha Robinson. Protagonists should only be considered "strong female characters" if viewers would want to step into their shoes, Robinson argues. "Action movies are all about wish-fulfillment. Does [the character] fulfill any wishes for herself, rather than for other characters?" she writes.
