UPMC drafts gift prohibition policy

The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center's draft policy would prohibit doctors and others from accepting nearly all gifts from drug and medical device companies. One issue of contention is whether it makes sense to shut off access to drug samples for poorer patients. A school official says the school hopes to finalize the policy this fall and implement it by early next year.
