Current driving trends might put fewer cars on road this weekend

Usually known as a highly traveled weekend, this Fourth of July holiday occurs during the biggest slowdown in driving since the automobile was invented. AAA predicts a 1.9% decrease in trips of 50 miles or more compared with the Independence Day weekend last year. "We may be witnessing the beginning of a fundamental shift in American driving habits," says Ed McMahon at the Urban Land Institute.
