Study: Antibiotic might increase repeat ear infections in children

A survey in the Netherlands showed that children who repeatedly took amoxicillin to treat acute ear infections had a 20% higher risk of recurrent infection compared with those given a placebo. By contrast, researchers found that ear, nose and throat surgeries were more common among patients in the placebo group than those who received amoxicillin after initial infection.
