Nanotech promises cheaper, greener steel coating method

Three companies have been awarded $1.79 million by the National Institute of Standards and Technology to develop new methods of applying nano-scale ceramic and polymer coatings to steel surfaces. The nanocomposites have the potential to be cheaper, quicker and greener than current electroplating and hot-dip methods, while offering a similar degree of wear resistance and corrosion protection.
