Northrop Grumman wins $33M contract for unmanned refueling tanker

The Pentagon has awarded a $33 million contract to Northrop Grumman to retrofit its unmanned, long-range spy plane, dubbed the Global Hawk, into a robotic aerial refueling tanker. The plane, used for high-altitude reconnaissance missions over Iraq and Afghanistan by the U.S. military, will be capable of carrying 1,000 gallons of jet fuel in order to refuel another Global Hawk in flight.
