Behind U.S. Bank's success

U.S. Bank, the fifth-largest in the country, now holds the only Aa3 rating from Moody's Investors Service among large banks. The bank stays away from trading, brokerage, investment banking and equity investments, focusing more on consumer and business banking. "We only do what we understand and that we can control," CEO Richard Davis said in a first-quarter earnings call. "And as trite as it sounds, I really like the consistent, predictable, repeatable business we've given you all."
