Gestational diabetes risk appears higher with use of antipsychotics

Pregnant women who took antipsychotic drugs were more likely to develop gestational diabetes than those who did not use the medicines, Swedish researchers reported in the Archives of General Psychiatry. Data on women who gave birth between 2005 and 2009 showed the frequency of gestational diabetes was 4.3% in those who took antipsychotic drugs, compared with 1.7% in nonusers.
