CMIOs overwhelmed by efforts to satisfy federal mandates

Chief medical information officers participating in a recent symposium sponsored by the Association of Medical Directors of Information Systems said they are overwhelmed by efforts to satisfy various federal requirements, such as stage 2 meaningful use, the move to ICD-10 and security rules under the final HIPAA Omnibus Rule, as well as voluntary programs such as the move to accountable care organizations. CMIOs also are taking on more leadership roles as their groups work to satisfy these overlapping federal mandates.
