Diabetes meds help lower death, heart risks, review shows

The rates of all-cause mortality in diabetes patients declined from the 1970s through the 1980s and 1990s, a review presented at the ADA 73rd Scientific Sessions indicated. Researchers said pioglitazone helped reduce the risk of death, myocardial infarction and stroke in patients, while metformin was associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular disease.
