Diabetes meds help lower death, heart risks, review shows

The rates of all-cause mortality in diabetes patients declined from the 1970s through the 1980s and 1990s, a review presented at the American Diabetes Association 73rd Scientific Sessions indicated. Researchers said pioglitazone helped reduce the risk of death, myocardial infarction and stroke in patients, while metformin was associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular disease.
