Equality is needed to stop violence against women, UN's Puri writes

Governments can act to help end violence against women and girls by providing access to legal recourse, among other protections. They can also help by empowering women and encouraging them to become leaders, writes Lakshmi Puri, acting head of UN Women. "Only greater equality between the sexes will turn the tide to prevent and end violence against women and girls," she argues.
