GAO study finds companies paid tax rate of 12.6% in 2010

Large U.S. companies paid an effective tax rate of 12.6% in 2010, compared with the statutory tax rate of 35%, according to the Government Accountability Office. Exemptions, tax credits, deferrals and other incentives trimmed these companies' tax bills, the study found.
