How little people helped Lego grow

When Lego first started producing its blocks in the mid-20th century, it created kits that weren't to the same scale. The introduction of the now-classic minifigure helped change that, giving the company's designers a standard scale to use and ensuring that the company's different kits could be used together. That consumer-friendly innovation triggered a "golden period in Lego's history," said Lego historian David Robertson, with the company seeing double-digit growth every year for the next 15 years.
