Kakao Talk said it has reached 100 million registered users, including 90% of its native South Korea. Its myriad monetization methods, however, stand out. It sells emoticon "stickers" that can be attached to messages, utilizes an application programming interface for social gaming supported by virtual currency, and has branded-account clients allowed to push through to customers.
