Apartment rents up 3.4% in the past year

Average monthly rents increased 0.8% to $1,099 for apartments in the U.S. last quarter, according to Reis, marking the 18th consecutive quarter of increases. Rents are up 3.4% over the past 12 months. Meanwhile, household incomes have stagnated, failing to recover to 2007 peak levels.
