Phishing attacks reach record levels as fraudsters turn attention to social networks

The number of identified phishing sites targeting unsuspecting consumers grew by double digits in the first quarter of 2014, with the Anti-Phishing Working Group reporting 41,738 new phishing attacks per month -- continuing a trend of record-breaking growth from last year. PhishLabs found that the majority continue to target financial services and e-payment systems, but more than a third are now directed at social media and e-mail platforms.
