Some teachers unions aid in school administration

The 5,000-member Newark, N.J., teachers' union is telling as many as a dozen teachers to leave a struggling pre-K-8 school being taken over by a coalition that includes the union. Teachers unions already are operating public schools jointly with districts in such cities as Chicago, Boston and Miami, according to the American Federation of Teachers.
