Economics will dictate use of 450mm wafers below 7nm, Leti CEO says

Once the semiconductor industry starts turning out chips with dimensions smaller than 7 nanometers, economic considerations will require a shift to employing 450-millimeter wafers, said Leti CEO Laurent Malier. "We think economics is not an issue down to 10nm, or probably 7nm, then you will need 450mm," he said. The payback with 450mm will be the larger number of chips on each wafer, Malier added.
