Samsung adds streaming technology with Boxee purchase

Samsung Electronics has acquired Boxee and will be taking on the startup's 45 employees, according to various media reports, which put the purchase price at less than $30 million. Samsung quickly gave notice that the Boxee Cloud DVR service will be discontinued as of Wednesday. "Joining Samsung means we will be able to work on products that marry the best hardware and software in the TV space, products that will be used by tens of millions of people and will help to shape the future of TV," Boxee said in a statement.
