In U.S., a coal dilemma

As the U.S. looks for alternative energy sources to imported oil, it increasingly is eyeing domestic coal, which it has in droves and which, with the right technology, can be turned into fuel for automobiles, homes and industry. The dilemma, however, is that fuels produced from coal create an excessive amount of global warming-causing carbon dioxides, The New York Times reports.
