Iraq protests $1.68B Turkish dam on Tigris River

As Turkey announced plans to resume work on a $1.68 billion hydroelectric dam on the Tigris River, Iraq lodged a protest with the European coalition financing the project. Iraq claims the Ilisu dam will alter the water supply downstream from the dam and harm Iraqi farmers facing a second year of drought. The Turkish dam, started in 2006, will provide 3.8 billion kilowatt hours of electricity a year.
