Teaching is no longer a recession-proof profession

Even though the number of education-related jobs has grown about 3% annually for 15 years, the total number of jobs in the sector has declined in six of the past 12 months, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. "You always think of teaching as a safe profession. ... Not so much right now," said Heather Clutter, a California teacher who was laid off.
