U.S. manufacturers cut R&D budgets during downturn

U.S. manufacturers continue to cut costs during the economic downturn, including research and development budgets. Caterpillar trimmed its R&D budget 15% to $1.45 billion for this year. However, experts say that companies must continue to invest in new products to stay competitive with overseas manufacturers.
