Apple concedes a iPhone bug overstated signal strength

Apple has acknowledged a software problem in its iPhones that for years has falsely indicated the strength of the handset's signal by displaying more bars than warranted. Apple promised to fix the problem as soon as possible, saying it discovered the flaw while investigating complaints about vanishing bars when users held their phones in a certain way.
