Dow, BASF garner production-efficiency award from EPA

The Environmental Protection Agency has awarded chemicals majors BASF and Dow Chemical for jointly developing a system for converting hydrogen peroxide to propylene oxide using a process that reduces water use by about 70% to 80% while cutting energy use by 35%, writes Doris de Guzman in this blog post. The process also yields no byproducts except for water, and the technology required to build such a system costs 25% less in capital spending when compared with conventional models, she adds.
