An inside look at canine cognition

Researchers at Duke University are finding that dogs can connect to humans in a way that even chimps and other primates can't: Our canine companions can demonstrate that they understand human hand gestures. The researchers are using "trust tests" to measure how quickly a dog can interpret hand gestures. They hope their findings will help to improve training for service dogs as well as help us understand our own psychological evolution.
