Texas pet-protection law to take effect this summer

A new law set to take effect Sept. 1 in Texas will extend to pets the protective orders designed for victims of domestic abuse in the state. The law is meant to aid pets in cases where someone harms or threatens to harm an animal as a means of intimidating or coercing its human owner. Roughly a dozen other states already have taken similar steps to protect pets from domestic abusers, per this article.
