AAR: Freight carload traffic up in latest week, but intermodal drops

U.S. freight railroads' intermodal activity slipped 1.5% in the week ending June 29, compared with the year-ago level, but carload volume increased 1%, according to the Association of American Railroads. In the first six months of the year, rail traffic declined 1.5%, but intermodal climbed 3.6%. Shipments of petroleum and petroleum products rose 26.6% in the latest week, AAR noted.
