Some Republicans argue that President Barack Obama "bought" the 2012 election by promising Medicare, food stamps and unemployment checks to his poor supporters. The data suggest otherwise: Americans' personal income from benefit payments has fallen precipitously since Obama took office, while federal payments to veterans has climbed sharply.
