Does competition have a place in the classroom?

Although many teachers use competitive activities to motivate their students, some experts say classroom contests end up promoting an interest in winning over the love of learning. Numerous studies indicate students in cooperative, rather than competitive, classrooms have better fluency, problem-solving skills and higher-level reasoning abilities.
